The Year 5 and 6 Francis Holland Foresters marked the end of the academic year on Thursday with a celebratory foresters session. Girls began by investigating combustion and the fire triangle, learning that heat, fuel, and oxygen are all required for fire to burn. This reinforced safe practice around the fire circle. Each girl then made their own candle using cotton wicks, melted wax, and a choice of essential oils including lavender, valerian and sandalwood. Pupils also worked in teams to build shelters, applying teamwork and problem-solving skills throughout.

To conclude the final session of the year, the girls were served hot chocolate with marshmallows over the fire, alongside ice lollies to celebrate the sunny June afternoon. Throughout the year, pupils have developed skills in knot tying, fire lighting, tool use, and shelter building, while growing in confidence and developing a respect for the natural environment.
