Year 4 had a fantastic trip to Kew Gardens this week to continue their geography learning about tropical rainforests! The girls enjoyed a brilliant and interactive workshop all about rainforest habitats, which involved them becoming plant scientists and getting to grips with all sorts of scientific instruments. They made predictions about levels of sunlight, humidity, and soil temperature, and enjoyed taking measurements like real scientists – first outside in the UK’s temperate climate, and then inside the rainforest biome in one of Kew’s amazing glasshouses.
Year 4 then had the opportunity to explore the biome, where they discovered more about cocoa plants, where vanilla beans come from, and how bats use waterproof leaves for shelter. They also experienced what it is like to be high up in the forest canopy by completing Kew’s tree-top walkway, taking them 18 metres above the ground. It was an incredible day out, and the girls really impressed us with their geographic knowledge!
