Our Year 5 girls recently returned from a fantastic residential trip to Penshurst Place in Kent with The Bushcraft Company. The experience provided a wonderful opportunity for the girls to develop their independence, resilience and teamwork whilst enjoying life in the great outdoors. From the moment they arrived, they threw themselves into every challenge with enthusiasm and a real sense of adventure.
The girls took part in a wide range of engaging activities, including shelter building, outdoor first aid, whittling their own working pencils and learning practical bushcraft skills. Evenings were spent gathered around the campfire, where they enjoyed singing together and reflecting on the day’s adventures. They also had the opportunity to learn about the fascinating history of Henry VIII’s palace, bringing their historical learning to life in a memorable setting.
Throughout the trip, the girls impressed staff with their willingness to get stuck in and try new experiences. Whether constructing shelters, mastering new skills, or adapting to outdoor living, they approached each activity with positivity and determination. A few eight-legged-friends made appearances in some of the tents, but these were taken in good spirits by both pupils and teachers alike and became just another part of the authentic bushcraft experience!
We were incredibly proud of the way the girls represented the school. They returned with wonderful memories, stronger friendships and a great sense of accomplishment after an enjoyable and rewarding few days away. The trip was a tremendous success and one that will be remembered for years to come.
