Last Friday, I joined members of the amateur ballet company, Chelsea Ballet, with whom I perform, for Silver Sunday, a special weekend that celebrates older people and seeks to tackle loneliness by bringing generations together through community events, activities and opportunities for connection. Other members of the ballet company and I travelled to five care homes in Chelsea and Westminster to bring the joy of ballet to residents who might not otherwise have the opportunity to experience live performances. I danced the lively Neapolitan character dance from Act III of Swan Lake, alongside solos and duets from The Nutcracker, Don Quixote and Raymonda performed by other members of the company. The highlight was seeing the residents’ wonderful reactions and meeting the Deputy Mayor, Christabel Flight.
