Last week, Year 5 visited the Science Museum. We explored two spaces with different themes: medicine and an inter-active gallery; then concluded with an intriguing rocket show. In the Wonderlab there were many interesting activities to enjoy, from feeling static shocks and squealing with laughter, to whizzing down three slides with different materials – grass, plastic, and wood. We also looked to the stars and perceived vast galaxies, the moon, and also the sun, surrounded by a revolving floor acting as the Earth orbiting around the sun.
The slides tested gravity and friction, the grass covered one had a rougher texture compared to the sleek wooden one and slowed down the user because it created higher friction. Whereas if you glided down the plastic or wooden slide, your hair would have been blown behind you with the wind whistling in your ears!
Every time we travel to the Science Museum there is always a new and diverse thing to explore. Everybody left the museum with at least one fact to exchange with someone else. Did you know the first British spacesuit was worn by Helen Sharman on her 1991 mission to the Mir Space Station?
