On Wednesday, we were treated to a truly heartwarming and inspiring Reception and KS1 Concert, bringing together every girl from Reception to Year 2 in a vibrant celebration of music-making.
Reception completely captivated the audience with their energetic djembe drumming in I Like to Move it Move it, showing fantastic rhythm and enthusiasm. This was beautifully complemented by their storytelling in A Squash and a Squeeze, where they showed off their excellent expression and showmanship!
Year 1 impressed us all with a polished and mature performance of Beethoven’s Ode to Joy, played with great care and musicality. Their sweet and heartfelt rendition of You Are My Sunshine was full of warmth and charm, creating a truly special moment.
Year 2 opened the concert with their string project, showcasing the violin and cello. It was remarkable to see every child involved, demonstrating not only their growing technical skills but also their ability to listen, collaborate, and perform as part of an ensemble. Their combined performance of Francis Holland is Our School was both uplifting and powerful, and a testament to the dedication and progress of all the girls. We very much hope this marks the beginning of many exciting musical journeys on their instruments.
The finale of the concert brought all year groups together in an outstanding massed choir. The girls amazed the audience with their three-part singing in Scooby Doo Wah – a truly gobsmacking achievement for such young performers. This was followed by a beautifully sensitive and expressive rendition of Hushabye Mountain. The energy then lifted with a joyful and brilliantly articulated Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious, full of fun and extraordinary diction.
The concert concluded with an awe-inspiring and empowering performance of Sara Bareilles’ Brave, a firm favourite with the girls. Singing with confidence and conviction, they conveyed a powerful message about finding their voice.
Across the entire concert, the standard of singing was exceptional – not only in musical skill, but in the girls’ understanding of text, expression, and communication through both voice and gesture.
A huge thank you to Miss Faber for her wonderful accompaniment and support, to Miss Smith, Ms Nash, and Miss Corsi for their tireless work on the instrumental programmes throughout the year, to Mr Page for his invaluable technical support, and to all of the class teachers for their help in making this event such a success.
Miss Houlder, Director of Music
