Last Friday, Year 4 enjoyed an exciting trip to Kew Gardens on a gloriously sunny day to deepen their knowledge of rainforests. In a special workshop, the girls explored the differences between temperate and tropical climates by measuring air and soil temperature, humidity and other habitat parameters both inside and outside one of Kew’s impressive glasshouses. They also revisited their knowledge about the four layers of the rainforest, focusing on the plants that grow on the dark, damp forest floor and those that rise high into the sunlight of the emergent layer. In addition, they investigated food chains and took part in a lively role-play to see how deforestation can dramatically affect them. It was a memorable, hands-on day of learning!
Mr Cilveti and Miss Johnson, Year 4 Class Teachers
Year 4 went to Kew Gardens on Friday and we all really enjoyed it. We learnt about lots of different species of plants and what climate they grow in. We also learnt about bananas, different food chains and we even got to smell a cacao bean. There were loads of beautiful, colourful flowers, of which each had a unique smell. One of our favourites was the playground and even Mr Cilveti went on the slide!
