To mark the end of a fantastic year of outdoor learning, our Year 3 and 4 girls enjoyed their final Forest School session at beautiful Norbury Park. The girls were full of enthusiasm, and it was a special day filled with nature, creativity, and teamwork.
The day began with a Tree Leaf Nature ID activity, where the girls explored the woodland and used their observation skills to identify a variety of tree species. Equipped with ID charts and plenty of curiosity, they worked in pairs, comparing leaves and learning to spot the subtle differences between them.
The girls’ creativity shone as they practised carving, transforming wood into magical wands and musical instruments. This activity required patience, focus and care, and the girls were rightly proud of their creations.
In the afternoon, Forest School took a cross-curricular twist with a fun recap of the water cycle, linking back to Year 4’s geography lessons. In small groups, the girls worked together to build real-life models of the water cycle using natural materials they gathered in the forest. They added pre-prepared labels and explained the processes of evaporation, condensation, precipitation, infiltration and surface runoff with great confidence and creativity.
Throughout the day, the girls were fully engaged and showed excellent teamwork. It was a joy to see them connecting classroom knowledge with the natural world around them. It was a truly wonderful day for all, and we eagerly anticipate our next visit to Norbury Park in the Autumn Term.
