To tie in with their half-term unit on ‘The History of Transport’, Year 1 have been learning about an early development in ocean travel: Viking longships! The girls thoroughly enjoyed discovering the different features of these ships and learnt about how they were used by the Vikings.
The girls were then set a challenge that put their problem-solving skills to the test: to construct their very own model longships out of recycled materials! Their creations had to meet a specific set of requirements:
1. Their boats had to float.
2. Their boats had to have a mast and a sail.
3. Their boats had to have a long, narrow body, similar to that of the Viking longship.
The Year 1 girls impressed us all with their fantastic teamwork and innovative thinking. Every team successfully built and floated their longships. Well done, Year 1!
