We are thrilled that Chelsea in Bloom is nearly upon us once again, and after proudly receiving a Gold certificate from the judges last year, we have been thinking long and hard about how to represent our values in an installation just as exciting. In celebrating our love of books being a central pillar to our school’s ethos, we thought it appropriate to take inspiration from a fairytale to correspond with this year’s theme; Out of This World!
On Wednesday, a group of Year 2s expertly acted out our reimagined version of the traditional fairytale ‘George and the Dragon’ during assembly. However, instead of the main character being a boy, we thought it much more appropriate to have a Fearless Girl standing up to the dragon and embodying courage. Rather than holding a weapon, she holds a pen representing the power of using voice and words, values and compassion as a means of standing up to fears or challenges. Woven into the design, the dragon’s wings will be adorned with stars – each one decorated by one of our girls and together symbolising their belonging in our Francis Holland Prep ‘solar system’ community.
Public voting for the People’s Champion Award opens on 18th May, and we look forward to sharing details of how families and friends can support our display when Chelsea in Bloom officially begins. We hope this year’s Chelsea in Bloom installation will not only capture attention along the King’s Road, but also bring joy to all who see it, and stand as a celebration of the creativity, courage and spirit of our school.
