Year 4 Historians stepped into the world of Ancient Rome as they explored the reasons for and against Emperor Claudius invading Britain in AD 43. After examining evidence and motives, the girls took on the roles of Roman Senators, debating from different perspectives. Their lively discussions showed impressive critical thinking and a growing understanding of how historians use sources to interpret past decisions.

To bring the scene even more to life, the class dressed Mr Russell in a full Roman toga before forming a dramatic ‘conscience alley’. As he walked between two lines of ‘senators’, the girls whispered persuasive arguments urging him either to proceed with or abandon the invasion. This immersive activity made the history feel exciting and tangible, helping the girls experience the challenges of leadership and decision making in the Roman Empire!
