Earlier this week, Year 5T visited Ixworth Community Centre to help tie-dye white socks to support the work of the centre.
“On Tuesday, Year 5 went to meet some volunteers from one of our school charities, TimeGivers. We talked about how we were helping and soon set off on our fun task. We were making tie-dye socks! This was very messy, but really worth it (although one of mine ended up slightly too brown). Afterwards, everyone wrote kind notes to those who were receiving our hand-made socks. Knowing we were making someone else’s day, we carefully wrapped them up, ready to send.”
Marlena, Year 5
“The class was really engaged in answering questions and offering their thoughts on volunteering at the start of the session. It was lovely to see how keen they were to do the tie-dye and be creative with their socks. My favourite part, however, was when they wrote letters to the recipients of the donations. I felt like it allowed them to reflect more on who the items were going to, and I was very impressed with the results.”
