After a longer wait than the younger years, the Year 5 and 6 Francis Holland Foresters finally embarked on their much anticipated bushcraft adventure at Norbury Park this week. Immersed in their favourite woods, the girls took on advanced challenges that tested both their creativity and teamwork. From constructing raised roof tipis to experimenting with intricate shelter designs, they demonstrated impressive resilience and ingenuity. The forest became their classroom, where nature provided both the materials and the inspiration for their creations.
The highlight of the trip was undoubtedly the fire-making workshop, where the girls learned the science behind combustion and the fire triangle. Using ferro rods (a tool requiring skill and precision) they sparked their own fires, gaining a real sense of accomplishment. As flames flickered and warmed the chilly woodland air, the girls gathered around to sip hot chocolate and reflect on their achievements. It was a trip filled with learning, laughter, and leadership; a wonderful experience thoroughly deserved after a lengthy half term of hard work!
