Forest School is about connecting with the magic of nature and taking learning outdoors. For Year 5 and 6 girls, their Tuesday trip offered a chance to step outside the Francis Holland Prep classroom walls, and immerse themselves in the wonders of the great outdoors. Whether feeling the crunch of leaves underfoot or listening to the symphony of birds cheeping, the experience fosters a deep appreciation for the natural world. It is a place where creativity flourishes as the girls learn to see nature not just as scenery but as a toolkit filled with possibilities. The girls explore, collaborate, and nurture their imaginations, all while building a profound respect for the environment.

The girls dove into shelter building, using resources available from the forest floor, alongside tarpaulin sheets. From sturdy branches to flexible vines, they discovered how to turn raw materials into practical hideaways. Working together, they experimented with designs, ensuring their shelters could withstand the elements. The girls’ favourite method of celebrating their achievements is gathering around an open fire and roasting marshmallows to golden perfection. As the flames crackle and the marshmallows melt, they not only savour sweet treats but also forge unforgettable memories. Through these adventures, the girls embrace the thrill of creating and bonding in nature’s playground.

This school trip was indeed a truly inspiring experience that left everyone with a greater appreciation for the wonders of science.
