Last Friday, Year 3 headed to the National Gallery to learn all about religion in art. To discover more about how Christianity is presented in the gallery’s collections, the girls pondered who the art was painted for, where it would have been hung and how it helps us understand people’s thoughts at the time.

The girls did a fantastic job at becoming art detectives for the day, showing curiosity and commitment to help them understand what they were seeing, as well as uncovering hidden messages in the paintings. We learnt why Mary always wears blue, how good and evil are shown, and even why there are pickles at the bottom of some old paintings!

We are so lucky to have such fantastic art on our doorstep, and the girls were thrilled to learn that the paintings are all owned by the British public!
