Francis Holland Prep proudly hosted four visiting schools for this year’s energetic Cicero Cup Debating Competition. In the opening round, pupils tackled challenging seen motions, arguing either “This House would tax junk food” or “This House would introduce compulsory military service for school leavers.” The girls demonstrated impressive preparation, confidence and flair as they presented tightly reasoned cases and responded skilfully to counter arguments.

The competition culminated in an exhilarating impromptu final, with teams given the motion only moments before speaking. Despite the high pressure, the debaters rose brilliantly to the occasion, delivering sharp, spirited exchanges. After a fiery finale, Francis Holland Prep was narrowly pipped to the post by Putney High.  An outstanding effort and a wonderful showcase of oracy across all the competing schools.
