We had such a lovely time celebrating Children’s Mental Health Week at FHP this week. The theme was ‘This is My Place’ and it really helped us to think about where we feel we belong, and how we can help others feel that way too.

We kicked things off on Monday with a whole-school assembly. Hearing everyone sing This is Me and Count on Me together was so uplifting; the girls sang with so much enthusiasm that you could not help but smile and clap along!

The rest of the week was full of little moments that helped foster that sense of belonging. On Tuesday, the girls enjoyed a special cookie treat which definitely helped brighten an otherwise very grey, drizzly day! In classrooms, girls explored the theme in lots of creative ways:

  • Reception thought about how they could spread kindness and practised mindfulness each day. They also filled in a proud cloud!
  • Year 1 reflected on how to be a kind friend at school, at home, and to themselves. They enjoyed filling in a special class kindness chart to keep track of their thoughtful actions throughout the week and even drew themselves as kindness superheroes!
  • Year 2 shared acts of kindness that they wanted to commit to for their beautiful class assembly all about love.
  • Year 3 wrote about places where they feel they belong and linked it beautifully to the text they are reading, The Secret Garden.
  • Year 4 invented characters searching for their place in the world and wrote amazing adventure scenes about them.
  • Year 5 created beautiful belonging maps that highlighted the people, places and experiences that fill them with a sense of belonging.
  • Year 6 explored how miscommunication can affect someone’s feeling of belonging through scriptwriting and drama, designed their own belonging maps and even created a Positive Playlist for the classroom!

It was a gentle and reflective week, full of creativity, kindness and connection, and it was clear just how much our girls care about helping others feel that they belong.
